Hiking and backpacking practice at Huntsville State Park

Join us for a three hour quick-paced hike. If you are planning on backpacking the Lone Star Hiking Trail in February this is a good opportunity to start training. If you’re not practicing for backpacking, just bring your water and have fun! Huntsville State Park is a pretty park.
To practice for backpacking, grab a bookbag, and fill it some weight. You might want to start with 5-15 lbs. Put some stuff, doesn’t matter what, in a bag. Walk around your house to see if it feels good. You don’t have to go big the first time. Just bring more than what you would normally bring for a hike.
Wear tennis shoes or hiking boots (if you’re carrying weight, you’ll want a sturdy shoe), as it’s easy to bang a toe on a tree.
