Memorial Park, known as the Central Park of H-town, is an amazing 1466-acre park (one of the largest in the county) right inside the loop! Trails are a mix of hard packed dirt, sand, trees and tree roots. It is wooded and wild in the middle of the city!
Join us for a two-hour quick-paced hike. If you are planning on backpacking Turkey Creek in October or the Lone Star Hiking Trail in February this is a good excuse to start training. If not, just bring your water and have fun. I’ll be carrying 30 lbs. in my backpack.
There’s a good chance we will have to change the course we had planned because of flood or downed trees, but there’s enough clear areas to have a good hike.
Wear tennis shoes or hiking boots, as it’s easy to bang a toe on a tree root. And, there’s some “elevation” in the park that you wouldn’t expect from just driving by. Remember to bring water; there are no water fountains along the trails.
What to Bring:
Water! Required!! It is too hot, even at 8am, to hike this trail and length of time without water.
Bug Spray
Sun protection (hat, long sleeves, sunscreen)
Sturdy shoes – if it was raining close to the event, wear shoes you don’t care to get dirty.
