—————-

Most people think of drive-in movie theaters are a thing of the past, but there are still some drive-in theaters around, and we have one just outside the Houston City Limits in Hockley, TX.

Let’s go an enjoy a night under the stars: for just as they say IT’S NOT JUST A MOVIE… IT’S AN EXPERIENCE!

They have 2 screens, and play 2 movies on each. The movies are selected on Tuesdays so we will choose a screen closer to the actual date. The ticket at the gate pays for both films on our selected screen. the first movie starts around 7 PM but getting there early and setting up is part of the fun, specially now that is not so hot in Houston (and no mosquitoes is also a plus) – We could also try to meet outside the theater and drive together to make it easier to find each other-
There is a lot of info on their website about FAQ so make sure to check it out before you head out!

History of Drive-In Theaters (according to the Smithsonian Magazine)

The first drive-in movie theater opened in Camden, New Jersey in 1933. People paid 25 cents per car as well as per person to see the British comedy Wives Beware under the stars. The concept didn’t really get traction until the addition of in-car speakers in the early 1940’s. Drive-in theaters continued to be very popular throughout the next few decades, especially during the 1950’s and 1960’s. By 1958, the number of drive-ins peaked at 4,063. Now almost 90% of all drive-ins are gone in the United States.
