Behind the Scenes: Why We Put So Much Thought Into Food on Camping Trips
If you’ve ever planned your own camping trip, you already know…
Food can be one of the hardest parts.
You’re trying to figure out:
• What to bring
• How to keep it cold
• How much space it’s going to take in your car
• How to cook it with limited gear
• And somehow not forget half of what you need
It can add stress before you even leave.
It limits how many people you can ride with… because your car is packed.
And once you get there?
On trips where you bring your own food, a lot of people end up cooking alone… eating alone… and kind of staying in their own space.
What We Do Differently
This is one of the biggest things we remove for you.
You don’t have to plan meals.
You don’t have to pack a full kitchen.
You don’t have to figure out coolers and ice for days.
That frees you up to:
• Carpool with more people (save money on gas)
• Actually relax on the drive out
• Show up ready for the experience… not already drained from planning
And here's a little behind the scenes… this is some prep for our upcoming camping trips to Hill County State Natural Area and Big Bend National Park.
I spent about 20 hours prepping the bigger pieces of the meals:
• Smoking and Roasting chicken and pork butts
• Making chicken stock
I love how each meal has multiple layers of flavor. And while the food tastes great in my opinion, haha, it's about more than just the food.
Food isn’t just food on these trips.
It’s what brings people together. When meals are shared, something shifts:
People linger longer
Conversations go deeper
New friendships form naturally
There’s a rhythm to it…
Cooking together.
Eating together.
Sitting around after.
That’s where the connection actually happens. And after we ate we talk about the activites for the next day so everyone is informed and confident in plans.
We go to these places to explore… to get outside… to see parts of the world most people don’t experience.
And Big Bend is incredible.
The views.
The hiking.
The night skies.
But what people remember most?
It’s not just the location.
It’s the full experience…
Exploring all day… then sitting around camp, talking, laughing, and realizing you found people just like you.
That doesn’t happen by accident.
It’s created.
And a big part of that…
Starts with how we do food.
