Backpacking the Eagle Rock Loop

Join us in a last chance to do backpacking before it gets too hot.

The trail is the Eagle Rock Loop in the Ouachita National Forest in Arkansas, about 7 hrs. drive from Houston.

This is an intermediate-advanced trail with a length of 30 miles and a commutative elevation gain of 4,000 ft.

It’s a forest setting, but contrary to what you find in East Texas, you will have to climb several mountains. The vistas are supposed to be spectacular. There are numerous water crossings with good quality to filter and even swimming.

Plan on spending 3 days/ 2 nights. This will give us enough time to take rest, stare at the vistas or swim in cool water.

Average temperatures are:
74-83 high / 57-66 low
