Let’s go exploring! This state forest is one of the nations largest working urban forests and is managed by Texas A&M Forestry Service. The primary purpose of this forest is resource education and it is a sanctuary for the endangered Red-Cockaded Woodpecker! The park has over 15 miles of trails for us to explore. We’ll spend about an hour and a half exploring the area and plan to cover between 3-5 miles.
Meet at the parking lot circled in blue on the map posted in comments. This is one of three main parking lots directly off of 1488. It is the lot farthest from I45 and will be on your left, next to a large pond.
It will be warm, so please bring plenty of water to drink.
Also there are no public restrooms available at the parking lot so be sure to make your pit stops before you arrive.
Dogs are welcome on this hike but must remain on leash.
This forest also happens to be just around the corner from Hangar nine so be sure to come cool off at the wakeboard park with us afterwards!! Or bring a picnic lunch and just come hang out and watch!
