Hike Along the Bayou

About the Hike

A tremendous amount of work has been done to build great trails along the bayous in Houston. Trees and wildflowers have been planted.  The Bayous are being cleaned up.  The neighborhoods around the bayous are excited and participating and parking has been added.

Level of Difficulty?  This Hike is Designed for All Levels.

When we label an event, All Levels, it means we will go the pace of the group who shows up for the event.

For this hike, we’ll hike for about two hours, which should give us about 4 miles depending.  We do not leave people behind on our hikes.  We’ll go as fast or as slow as the group needs to be sure everyone makes it back to the start.

Rain Plan:

We will still hike during light rain. If we need to cancel for thunderstorms, we will cancel the morning of.  Houston weather changes so quickly and often, that it doesn’t make sense to cancel before the morning of. Brays Bayou Greenway

“Brays Bayou begins in northern Fort Bend County and flows east past the Texas Medical Center and University of Houston toward the Ship Channel. Near its junction with Buffalo Bayou was the early settlement of Harrisburg, founded in 1826, a decade before Houston. Historians differ on the origin of the bayou’s name. Some say it honors James Brays, a land surveyor for Stephen F. Austin’s Mexican colony. Others say it is a variation of the Scottish word “braes,” which means sloping bank or hillside.” Read More here.
