San Antonio Adventure Club (SAAC) is one of our sister clubs and they are planning a huge night float on the Comal River. You make arrangements to get there and where you are going to stay, then meetup with the group to float the river!

This year we are expanding it to the first 500 so come join us at the Comal River in New Braunfels on Saturday, 6/23/18 for a moonlight tubing trip on the Comal River.  This is usually our biggest event of the year.  We will start the event at 6:00 PM, and get on the river around dusk.  If the sky is clear we should have a nice full moon. Regardless, the lights of New Braunfels provide plenty of visibility if it is cloudy.  We should be done by about 11:00 PM, give or take.  The float usually takes a couple of hours depending on the river flow rate.  After the float we will go to one of the local downtown nightspots just a few blocks from Outfitter.

Your Ticket Price Includes the following:

  • Tube rental,
  • Shuttle back to outfitter
  • Carne asada dinner,
  • Fresh fruit and veggies
  • Sodas and bottle water
  • 2 drink tickets for draft beer,
  • Glow necklaces.
  • The Outfitter will also provides our group with free tubes for coolers.

Member Pricing:  $26.25  Guest Pricing:  $31.95 – This event will sell out!  Your spot is not reserved until you pay on the San Antonio site.

How to pay:

You are also welcome to bring anything to share if you like, but it is not required.  BYOB on the adult beverages other than the keg.   You may want to bring a lawn chair for when we eat the food.  Feel free to bring extra glow necklaces, bracelets, bunny ears, and etc.  The more we have the more of a spectacle it is on the river.  You can get the glow stuff at Party City

The Comal River, at about 2 1/2 miles in length, is claimed to be the shortest river in the world.  It is entirely within the city limits of New Braunfels until it joins the Guadalupe River just upstream from IH 35.  It has a year-round temperature of 72 degrees, and is quite comfortable on a hot Texas Summer evening.

There is a can ban in effect right now so no cans or bottles allowed on the river.  However, this is subject to change on the pending lawsuit.   You can still drink on the river it just has to be a reusable container such as plastic mugs or stainless steel mugs.   Remember, no glass or styrofoam is allowed on any Texas river.

There are a number of other regulations in place regarding the Comal including no containers under 5 fluid ounces, no volume drinking devices like beer bongs, coolers must be no larger than 16 quarts and have a locking lid, as well as other rules.  To see the full list of rules regarding the Comal River see the city of New Braunfels”  http://tubeinnewbraunfels.com/rules/  Jello shots are fine at Outfitter, but not allowed on the river.

Outfitter does not allow outside tubes.  In other words, you must use a tube from Outfitter.

If you get cold easily, you might want to consider wearing some type of windbreaker or rain gear.  They are usually made of nylon or pvc and dry quickly.  A cotton shirt will just hold water next to your skin and keep you cooler.  You can even wear a wetsuit if you wish.

Wear some good river shoes in case you have to stand in the river.  For sandals, they should have a heel strap.  Flip-flops come off really easily in the river and are virtually useless.

If you do not want to lose it, do not take it on the river.  Outfitter has a place for you to leave your keys, but they will ask for your driver”s license to put with it.

Outfitter has remote parking lots that are close to Outfitter. They are selling wristbands there. Do NOT buy one. Be sure to wait until you get to the Adventure Club registration table at the back of the Outfitter property to get your wristband.

Parking can be a pain at Outfitter, carpooling is recommended.  Recommended carpool location/time is Starbucks at The Forum at 1604 & 35.  at 3:45 PM for Cookout & Night Float.  There is not anyone officially leading carpooling, but if you go there meet at the tables right outside the front door of Starbucks.  Be sure to only ride with someone who is planning on returning at the same time as you are. Give them gas money if you ride with someone else!

Although this is a very safe stretch of river, if you are not a strong swimmer it is recommended that you wear a life jacket.  Outfitter provides them for free.

If you’re traveling from out of town here is a list of hotels and campgrounds and their telephone numbers in no particular order, If you are planning on staying in New Braunfels overnight, you should make hotel or camping reservations as early as possible.
