Backpacking the Grand Canyon
This will be an intermediate-to-advanced level backpacking trip in the Grand Canyon. We’ll start along the Bright Angel Trail at the South Rim and head towards the North Rim via the North Kaibab Trail. The North Rim is closed to cars at this time, so it will only be accessible by those who backpack the 23 miles from rim to rim.
This will be an intermediate level backpacking trip in the Grand Canyon.
We have secured a backpacking permit for March 1-3 and will do a day hike the morning of March 4. Trail conditions at this time of year may vary depending on snowfall. We can expect there to be snow at the top of the Grand Canyon and along the first 1-2 miles of our hike as we descend into the Canyon. Temperatures inside the Canyon should be in the 60’s during the day and 30’s at night. Please make sure you feel comfortable hiking on steep surfaces with snow and ice while wearing a backpack. Crampons (which can attach to your normal hiking boots) and hiking poles will be required for this trip. Everyone should bring their own gear and food. Water will be available at the campsites each night.
