Hiking Huntsville SP

Just 1 hour and 15 min north of downtown, Huntsville State Park offers some great hiking! We will hike the Chinquapin Trail. It’s about 6.5 miles in total with little evalation. Some parts are sunny but mostly you are walking through the woods around Raven Lake. We’ll take a couple of breaks along the way to enjoy views along the boardwalk and at the Raven Lake Dam.

Things to Bring:
– Plenty of water
– Snacks for the hike
– Sunscreen
– Hat, sunglasses, sun protection
– Lunch (we can eat by the lake and hangout after the hike!)

Difficulty:

The trail is an easy hike but be sure to wear sturdy shoes. We’ll hike the pace of the group, which is usually about 20 – 22 min miles. We will adjust the pace as needed!

Fees:

There is a $5 per person entry fee if you do not have a state park pass. If you have a state park pass, the entire car gets in for free.

Finding the group:

Meet at the Nature Center. As you drive into the park, the nature center is one of the first places you’ll see on the right side. Look for the HTXoutdoors sign.

Parking:

There are some parking spots in front of the building. If they are full, there is an additional parking lot across the street, the entrance for the lot is just before the nature center.

Dog friendly for friendly dogs:

Be sure your pup can handle the distance of the hike and the weather for the day of the hike before bringing them along. Bring plenty of water for them. We follow park rules, which means dogs should be on leash at all times.
