January 2019 Event Highlights

In January, HTXoutdoors had our semi-annual open membership and we are excited to welcome everyone! Our event leaders filled the January calendar with events like hiking, socials, archery, and bouldering on the weekdays. The weekends were jam packed with visits to parks, skating, yoga, and more.

A few highlights from the January calendar:

Exploring Brazos Bend State Park Located only 45 minutes from Houston, HTXoutdoors met at nearby Brazos Bend State Park to hike and mountain bike the trails, followed by lunch in the park.  We enjoyed seeing the local wildlife!

Backpacking the Lone Star Hiking Trail (LSHT) A group of backpackers headed out to hike the second portion of the 96.5 mile LSHT this month.  We’ve now hiked half of the trail!

HTXoutdoors 2nd Annual Party in the Park Our 2nd Annual Party in the Park was CHILLY, but at least we had CHILI to eat! We had members braving the cold to play a few games of volleyball, cornhole, and compete in the Rock-Paper-Scissors Contest. Congrats to our reigning RPS champion, Sy, who won a Double Person Wise Owl Hammock.

A big thank you to our sponsors this month!

Intro to Geocaching Several members set out to discover Geocaching, a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices, in Memorial Park this month. Attendees learned how to play and then the group set off to find nearby caches.  Each person who spotted the cache first received a prize!
