Looking for something to do over Thanksgiving?  Let’s go hiking and camping… northwest of Austin!

Enjoy the fall foliage at Colorado Bend State Park while hiking on over 30 miles of trails!  We discuss as a group which trails everyone is interested in.  Then we can go as a groups or you can go off on your own.  You can make this trip what you want!  We’ll have food that you can take with you for lunch.

Fee Includes:  

Campsite, firewood.

Dinner Thursday Night, Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Friday and Saturday, Breakfast Sunday.

Additional Fee:  $5 per night/per person unless you have a State Park Pass. There might be additional car fees too so please try to carpool.

In the notes section, indicate if you have any food requirements (i.e. No meat, no pork, no gluten).

There is a lot of hiking in this park or you can drive 45 mins to Lost Maples State Park (might need to reserve and extra day pass, sometimes they use other state park pass for entry during busy season.)

Average Temperatures:

High 60’s during the day, Mid 40’s at night.

Backpacking Practice:

Great Opportunity to practice backpacking! Bring a pack and some weight to put in it and carry during the day hikes.

About the campsite:

  •  There is water in the area but not at each campsite.  No electric at the campsite.  I will have a solar battery.  If you have any battery packs, please bring them to recharge your phones.  There are outside, rinse off showers only so bring some wipes. 😀

What you bring:

  • Warm clothes – plan to layer
  • Hiking Shoes & Comfortable shoes for camp
  • Hat, gloves, scarf for at night
  • Flashlight or headlamp
  • Tent – with poles, stakes and rain fly
  • Ground pad – remember, cots and air mattresses will be colder than sleeping on the ground with a pad.
  • Sleeping bag
  • Things to eat with (plate, bowl, cup, silverware)
  • Chair
  • Games
  • Wipes, tooth paste, tooth brush, etc.
  • Pillow – I always forget mine!
  • Beverages – we will make hot coffee in the morning but if you want anything else, please bring it.
  • Cooler if you need it for your beverages. We don’t bring a community cooler.

What BCO brings:

  • Kitchen stoves
  • Propane
  • Food
  • Table
  • Battery with Solar panel – not sure how long it will last but it’ll be something.
  • Games
  • Firewood

Tentative Menu:

Breakfast:  Eggs, Potatoes, Chorizo, Bread, Coffee, Tea

Dinners:  Chicken Soup, Chili, Steak & Veggie Tacos

Lunches:  Things to pack on your hike.

Snacks:  Nuts, chips and salsa, fruit
